Tableware for people who use it every day.
Ohdceya Ceramics is a pottery studio in Jaipur. We throw stoneware plates, bowls, jugs and cups, glaze them in a small range of colours, and fire them to stoneware temperature, so they take hot food and a dishwasher.
What we make
- Plates and side plates Thrown in two sizes, with a rolled rim so they stack.
- Bowls Everyday bowls for rice, soup and cereal, and deeper ones for the table.
- Jugs and pitchers Water jugs and milk jugs with pulled handles, glazed inside and out.
- Cups and mugs Straight-sided cups and mugs, each one thrown by hand and none of them identical.
- Serving pieces Platters, baking dishes and lidded pots, made to the size you ask for.
How a piece is made
-
Throwing
Clay is centred on the wheel and pulled up into shape, one piece at a time. Nothing here is moulded or cast.
-
Trimming
Once a piece is leather-hard, the base is turned, the foot ring cut, and it is set on the shelf to dry.
-
Glazing
Pieces are dipped or poured with a food-safe glaze, and the base is wiped clean so the pot does not stick in the kiln.
-
Firing
A biscuit firing first, then a second firing to stoneware temperature, which is what makes the body hard and watertight.
Get in touch
For an order, tell us what you need, roughly how many pieces, and when you need them. We are a small studio, so most things are made to order rather than taken from a shelf.
